Abstract

The University of Sumatera Utara Universitas Sumatera Utara or USU) one of the best state universities in Medan. The increasing number of students who want to study at USU, especially for those who come from outside the city of Medan, has increased the demand for housing facilities, or commonly called student dormitories. Every year, the demand for dormitories in cities with colleges continues to increase, exceeding the available capacity. There are various reasons why people choose to live in dormitories, including long distances from campus or economic considerations because the cost is more affordable. The provision of student dormitories and facilities is very important to support the development and development of the younger generation in pursuing higher education. The function of this dormitory is not only as a place to live, but also has a role in supporting non-academic activities such as sports, developing student interests, and talents through coaching programs that aim to shape student personalities.. The design of this student dormitory carries the concept of tropical architecture in its residential units and applies the main structure in the form of a frame system using beams, columns, and foundations. The hope is that student dormitories at the University of North Sumatra can meet the needs of temporary housing for students during their education.
