The Effectiveness Test of Nanoherbal Gagatan Harimau Leaves (Vitis gracilis Wall.) on The Liver Histology of Male Wistar Rats (Rattus norvegicus L.) in Aloksan-Induced Diabetes Mellitus Model
Abstract
Diabetes mellitus can damage organs and tissues in the body, especially the liver. The leaves of gagatan harimau (Vitis gracilis Wall.) contain metabolites, namely flavonoids and terpenoids, which act as antioxidants and induce and improve the histological structure of the liver. This study aims to determine the efficacy of nanoherbal gagatan harimau leaves on the liver morphology and histology of male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus L.) in a model of alloxan-induced diabetes mellitus. Alloxan-induced diabetes mellitus. This study used experimental methods and a completely randomized design (CRD) with six treatments and four replicates. The treatments consisted of a negative control, namely normal rats, a positive control, namely alloxan-induced 120 mg/kg bw, an alloxan induction treatment, and the reference drug glibenclamide. Administration of the reference drug glibenclamide 0.45 mg/kg bw, and a alloxan induction treatment and administration of gagatan harimau leaf nanoherbal at concentrations of at concentrations of 100, 125 and 150 mg/kg bw. The results of the study showed that that administration of nanoherbal gagatan harimau leaves at a concentration of 125 mg/kg bw was able to improve liver morphology in terms of liver surface colour, reduce liver weight and colour, reduce liver weight and volume, and reduce the level of hepatocyte cell damage, including parenchymatous damage including parenchymal degeneration, hydropic degeneration and necrosis (p<0.05) as a result of alloxan induction.
