    Abstract
    Diabetes mellitus is a disease that occurs due to impairment of the insulin production and the supply in the body characterized by high glucose levels (hyperglicemia). The sambung nyawa (SB) leaf extract has bioactive compounds that can reduce the level of damage to the aorta. This study aims to analyze the effect of the leaf extract of sambung nyawa (Gynura procumbens (Lour.) Merr.) on the histology of aortic such as the thickness of the aortic wall, the diameter of the aortic lumen, the atherosclerosis lesions and the optimal doses of diabetes rats (Rattus norvegicus L.) induced by alloxan. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 6 groups and 4 replications. The group in this study consisted of groups K-: without treatment; K+: diabetes with alloxan; P1: metformin 45 mg/KgB;, P2: diabetes + SB extract 100 mg/KgBW, P3; diabetes + SB extract 150 mg/KgBW, P4; and the last is diabetes + extract 200 mg/KgBW.. The diabetic rats were identified by blood glucose contain. The aortic organ preparations made by the paraffin method and used the Hematoxylin Eosin (HE) staining. The results showed the sambung nyawa leaf extract treatment of 150 mg/KgBW has an effect on improving of the thickness of the aortic wall by an average of 76,45 μm, the diameter of the aortic lumen an average of 58,79 μm and reducing the score of atherosclerosis lesions by an a average value up to 1,5.
