Vitis gracilis (gagatan harimau) contains secondary metabolites, namely flavonoids and terpenoids, which act as antioxidants and trigger improvements in the histological structure of organs with nanometre sizes. These are highly effective in penetrating cells. The objective of this study was to determine the effectiveness of nanoherbal gagatan harimau leaves on the morphology and histology of the kidneys of male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus L.) in a model of alloxan-induced diabetes mellitus. The research consisted of six treatments and four replications, with a completely randomized design (CRD). The treatments comprised a negative control group of normal rats, a positive control group of diabetic mice induced by alloxan at a dose of 120 mg/kgBW, a group of diabetic rats treated with glibenclamide at a dose of 0.45 mg/kg bw, and a group of diabetic rats treated with nanoherbal tiger gagatan leaf extract at doses of 100, 125 and 150 mg/kg bw. The results of the study demonstrated that administration of nanoherbal gagatan harimau leaves at a dose of 125 mg/kg bw was capable of improving kidney morphology, including colour, reducing kidney weight and volume, and improving kidney histology, including decreasing glomerular diameter, frequency of proximal tubule narrowing and frequency of kidney necrosis (p<0,05). These effects were observed in rats induced with alloxan and stained with hematoxylin-eosin (HE).en_US
