Background: Poor sleep quality related bidirectionally with migraine and migraine related-burden (anxiety, depression, disability, and quality of life). There is currently limited evidence about these especially in Indonesia.
Objective: To investigate the correlation of sleep quality with anxiety, depression, disability, and quality of life in migraine patients.
Methods: This is a cross sectional study of migraine patients in headache clinic of Adam Malik Hospital and its network hospital from January-May 2024. We collected information about clinical symptoms and severity of migraine. Anxiety and depression was screened with Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7(GAD-7) and The Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). Sleep quality, disability, and quality of life were assessed with Migraine Disability Assesment (MIDAS), Pittburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and 36-Item Short Form Survey (SF-36), respectively. We performed correlation analysis of association of sleep quality with anxiety, depression, disability, dan quality of life.
Results: Score of PSQI significantly and positively correlate with GAD-7 (r=0,424, p=0,009), PHQ-9 (r=0,564, p<0,001), and MIDAS (r=0,621, p <0,001), significantly and negatively correlate with SF-36 scores, either with physical health summary measures (r= -0,421, p=0,009) and mental health summary measures (r= - 0,647, p<0,001).
Conclusion: Sleep quality associated with anxiety, depression, disability, dan quality of life in migraine patients. Concern and assessment about sleep quality is valuable in management of migraine patients.
