    Abstract
    This study aims to determine and analyze the effects of entrepreneurial characteristics, entrepreneurial orientation, entrepreneurial innovation, work motivation, and business environment on the performance of micro, small and medium enterprises scale in Medan Johor District. The sample for this study was 156 respondents using probability sampling method with random sampling technique. The analytical method used was interviews and questionnaires. The results showed that entrepreneurial characteristics had a negative and insignificant effect on the performance of micro, small and medium enterprises; entrepreneurial orientation carried a negative and insignificant effect on the performance of micro, small and medium enterprises; entrepreneurial innovation took a positive and insignificant effect on the performance of micro, small, and medium enterprises; work motivation obtained a positive and significant effect on the performance of micro, small and medium enterprises; and the business environment indicated a positive and insignificant effect on the performance of micro, small and medium enterprises. From the results of the determination coefficient, it was obtained that the Adjusted R Square (R2) was amount 0.142 that is interpreted as 14.2% of the performance of micro, small and medium enterprises in Medan Johor District could be explained by entrepreneurial characteristics, entrepreneurial orientation, entrepreneurial innovation, work motivation and business environment while the rest 85, 8% could be explained by factors out of those studied in this research, for instance, the quality of human resources, production systems, financial management systems, marketing strategies, partnership systems an also the quality of infrastructure and regulations
