Objective:
To determine the correlation of ischemic stroke and hyperdens middle cerebral artery sign (HMCAS) in patients with Head CT at H. Adam Malik General Hospital Medan.
Methods:
A Cross-Sectional Study in 120 ischemic stroke patients with Head CT at H. Adam Malik General Hospital Medan from 2022-2023 qualified inclusion and exclusion criteria. HMCAS was assessed based on visual assessment and measurement of middle cerebral artery (MCA) density with HMCAS (HU>43).
Results:
A total of 40 subjects (33.3%) had HMCAS on head CT, and the mean MCA density value (HU) with HMCAS is 54.7 ± 5.81. Analysis using the Chi-square test showed that there is a significant correlation between ischemic stroke and HMCAS (p < 0.05), and there is also a significant correlation between HMCAS and gender (p < 0.05). Analysis using the Chi-square test showed that there is no significant correlation between the history of hypertension and DM in ischemic stroke patients with HMCAS on head CT (p>0.05).
Conclusion:
There is a significant correlation between ischemic stroke and HMCAS on Head CT of ischemic stroke patients at H. Adam Malik General Hospital Medan. However, there is no significant correlation between the history of hypertension and DM in ischemic stroke patients with HMCAS on head CT.
