    Abstract
Background : Bacterial and fungal secondary infections are also the most important complications in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. In certain studies, it was found that secondary infection in tuberculosis can delay the healing time of tuberculosis, lead to complications, and may contribute to an increased risk of premature death in pulmonary tuberculosis patients. Methods : This study was an analytical cross-sectional study, data was collected using medical records, analyzed by chi-square through SPSS 25. The study participants were pulmonary tuberculosis patients who had sputum culture data and TCM results treated at Haji Adam Malik General Hospital on June 1 2020 until May 31, 2022. Result : The most age of the research sample was 25-34 years (28.8%) with male dominance (76.8%). The BMI of the majority of patients was underweight (82.4%). The most comorbid was diabetes mellitus (15.2%), and there were 52.8% who had a previous history of TB. The most TBSO was at the age of 25-34 years (35.0%) while the TBRO was at the age of 45-54 years (35.6%). Only (11.1%) patients were primary TBRO, whereas in TBSO there were (23.8%) who had a history of TB. But there is a significant relationship between gender (p=0.012), history of tuberculosis (p=0.006) and current diagnosis of tuberculosis (p=0.001) on the growth of bacteria and fungi (mixed infection). Conclusion : There was no relationship between age, gender, BMI, previous TB history, comorbidities, and current TB diagnosis on bacterial growth and fungal growth. But there is a significant relationship between gender, history of tuberculosis and current diagnosis of tuberculosis on the growth of bacteria and fungi (mixed infection).
