Road pavement surface roughness is a condition of frictional resistance between the road surface and vehicle tires so that they do not slip or slip, whether in wet or dry conditions. The surface roughness value is the friction value that occurs between the pavement surface and the vehicle wheels. This friction value depends on: micro and macro texture of the road surface, tire properties, vehicle speed and weather conditions. In this research, we will look for the relationship between roughness value and texture depth on the pavement surface.
The method used in this research is an experimental research method where research is carried out directly on road sections that are considered representative. Testing was carried out on Jalan Megawati, Binjai, North Sumatra. To determine the surface roughness value of the road pavement, a British pendulum tester was used and to determine the depth of the texture, the sand patch method was used.
The relationship between the roughness of the road pavement surface and the depth of texture on both road sections is directly proportional to the coefficient of determination (R2) for Jalan Megawati which is 0.3373; 0.898 and 0.1251. So it can be concluded that the surface roughness value of the road section still meets the standard, where the standard skid resistance value is 55 BPN. The texture depth for Jalan Megawati no longer meets the standard, where the standard texture depth is 1.5 MTD. The research results show that increasing texture depth has an effect on increasing skid resistance
