    Abstract
The level of complexity of work systems is increasing along with advances in science and technology. PT Aroma Mega Sari, Tanjung Morawa District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra Province is a manufacturing company engaged in the rice flour and sticky rice flour industry. The problem that occurs in this company's work system is that the targets set by the company, both quantity and quality, cannot be achieved. Work system problems consist of several variables, namely machines and equipment, physical work environment conditions, organizational policies, and physical workload. A holistic analysis is needed to identify the problems that most influence the current production work system. A macro ergonomics approach using Macroergonomic Analysis and Design (MEAD) was chosen as a solution tool for problems that exist in these work system variables so that solutions can be obtained to improve the work system. In the MEAD method, open questionnaires and closed questionnaires are distributed. Based on the results of the questionnaire recapitulation, key problems were selected based on the largest total matrix score. The key problem chosen is the thermal oil machine which often breaks down and the physical fatigue of workers at the packaging station. The proposed improvement for the machine and equipment variables is to create a program to increase worker compliance with SOPs and for the workload variable is to analyze the workload so that activity elements and workforce optimization can be improved
