    Abstract
    Background: Hypertension is defined as high blood pressure with systolic pressure over 140 mmHg and diastolic pressure of 90 mmHg. Medication adherence the behavior of complying with the advice of the health workforce about the use of drugs preceded by a consultation process between the patient and the health worker. Pharmacist intervention is an action taken by a pharmacist to be able to improve patient compliance in the use of drugs. Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of pharmaceutical interventions in improving patient compliance with the use of antihypertensive drugs at the Mandala Health Center in Medan. Methods: This study used a pre-experimental method with a one group pretest-postest design using the Medication Adherence Rating Scale 5 (MARS-5) questionnaire to assess the compliance of hypertensive patients at the Mandala Medan Health Center. Results: Based on the results of the study, 92 respondents (respondent rate 100%) were obtained with the most female respondents, namely 61 respondents (66.3%); aged > 65 years 49 respondents (42.4%); SMA 56 respondents (60.9%); retired/unemployed 60 respondents (65.2%); Long suffering from > 5 years 48 respondents (52.2%) and absence of comorbidities 64 respondents (69.6%). Before the intervention was given, the level of compliance was obtained as many as 19 respondents (20.7%); after being intervened, it increased to 40 respondents (43.5%). Because the data obtained was not normally distributed, the Wilcoxon test was carried out and a significance value of p value = 0.000 (p < 0.05) was obtained. Conclusion: The analysis showed that there was a significant effect between treatment before and after the pharmaceutical intervention on patient adherence to the use of antihypertensive drugs.
