Refill drinking water depots are increasingly popular among the public due to their perceived convenience in fulfilling drinking water needs. The water is ready to drink without the need to boil it to boiling and wait for it to cool before consumption. People only need to purchase refillable gallons at water refill stations. However, there are shortcomings encountered at these water depots, such as the process of closing the gallon lid which was still done manually by the operator. This causes the operator to have to spend additional energy to close the gallon after the filling process. So this research aims to design a prototype of the closing (Capping) process for water gallons based on a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and can carry out the process of closing water gallons automatically. The tool created is expected to be able to carry out the closing process automatically with average capping time of 24,53 second. The design results show that the prototype of the PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) based water gallon capping process can run well. The gallon lid feeder can provide gallon lids to gallons that have been filled with a 100% success rate. The photoelectric sensor can detect the presence of gallons and can send a signal to the PLC with a 100% success rate. The solenoid valve can flow 8 Bar pressurized air well. The pneumatic cylinder can push the piston forward and backward well. The gallon lid closing and locking system using a pneumatic cylinder can work well with a 100% success rate
