    Abstract
Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022 - 2023 triggered a global crisis that had a wide impact, including for Japan. The country, which has been known for its commitment to peace and democratic values, is faced with a dilemma in formulating its foreign policy against the conflict. This study aims to examine Japan's political intervention in the Russia-Ukraine war 2022 – 2023, and to what extent Japan can exert influence in order to suppress Russia's invasion of Ukraine. This research is a research with a qualitative methodology. With this type of qualitative research, literature studies by reading various book references and similar previous research results, to get a theoretical foundation on the topic being researched. The researcher uses secondary data as a source of reference for writing, namely data obtained from other parties through intermediary media. Secondary data sources come from observations, books, reports, journals, archives, and documentation. Researchers also used references from news sites to support the results of the study. Japan's stance reflects an effort to strike a balance between idealism and pragmatism, as well as demonstrating the complexity of formulating foreign policy in the era of globalization. This research is expected to contribute to understanding the dynamics of Japan's foreign policy in the midst of contemporary geopolitical crises, as well as its implications for the East Asia and Indo- Pacific region.
