    Abstract
    This research is titled "Self-Concept of Female Students Using Electronic Cigarettes in the Context of Intrapersonal Communication at the University of North Sumatra." The research aims to understand the motives of female students at the University of North Sumatra for using electronic cigarettes and to explore their self-concept as users of electronic cigarettes. The theories and concepts used in this research are Communication, Intrapersonal Communication, Self-Concept, Social Identity Theory, and Female Students. This research adopts a qualitative approach with a descriptive research method. Data collection techniques used are interviews, observations, documentation, and literature studies. The informants in this research consist of six people selected through Purposive Sampling technique. The results of this study reveal that the motives behind the use of electronic cigarettes by female students at the University of North Sumatra are the influence of the social environment and the sensations provided. The self-concept of female students at the University of North Sumatra who use electronic cigarettes varies from positive to negative based on five components of self-concept: self-esteem, self-image, ideal self, self-identity, and self-role. Four out of six informants have a positive self-concept, and two have a negative self-concept.
