dc.description.abstractThis study aims to determine the role of the individual as a sandwich generation as a family economic support for the zillennial generation in Medan City. This research was conducted using phenomenological research methods with a qualitative approach. The data collection techniques used in this study were in-depth interviews and documentation. The informants used in this study amounted to 7 people with individual qualifications who belong to the zillennial generation and play a role in the responsibility of fulfilling family financial needs. The results of this study explain that the emergence of the sandwich generation phenomenon in a family occurs due to dysfunction in the structure and social role of the family which includes a rift in household relations between father and mother and decreased productivity of parents at work. This is the basis of the because motive for individuals in becoming the backbone of the family economy. In overcoming this, individuals take action to fulfill the economic needs of the family by working, both in doing the main job and side jobs. The family needs borne by the individual include the cost of daily necessities, education costs, health care costs and the cost of installment dependents. This is the in order to motive for them in family resilience to be able to rebalance the financial condition of the family economy.en_US
