    Abstract
    FoMO (Fear of Missing Out) is a feeling of fear, anxiety, worry because it feels left behind so that there is pressure to always be connected to the latest and trending activities in interactions in the social environment. One of the factors for the occurrence of FoMO (Fear of Missing Out) is social media, especially on Instagram and TikTok, which causes feelings of envy because of posts or activities carried out by others. This study aims to see the influence and impact of FoMO in social interactions on the consumptive behavior of Medan city students with the research method used is quantitative. The population in this study were students at the University of North Sumatra and Medan Area University as many as 190 respondents, through free and random observation based on the question of determining FoMO individuals proposed by (przybylski, 2013). Data analysis used in this study is spearman correlation analysis, Independent Samples Test, and ANOVA. From the results of this study, it was found that the influence of FoMO students in social interactions on consumptive behavior, with a medium strength category. Consumptive behavior influenced by FoMO in this study has a negative impact on student finances, such as uncontrolled spending, waste or even debt. In this study, the influence of FoMO on consumptive behavior shows that FoMO encourages students to buy things. FoMO is a negative feeling such as feeling neglected when not included and worrying about attention and popularity so as to make impulsive, wasteful, and irrational purchases. Purchases made by students are only to seek validation to show about the social status and identity they want to achieve.
