In this era of rapidly evolving information technology, Radio Frequency
Identification (RFID) is a technology that improves the efficiency of various applications,
such as inventory management, contactless payment systems, logistics tracking and access
security. One part of RFID is the antenna. In this thesis, a meander line microstrip antenna
is designed for RFID reader applications. These microstrip antennas work on the UHF
band. The UHF band band was chosen because of the faster data readout compared to the
LF and HF bands, i.e. up to 1000 tags per second. This microstrip antenna is made on an
FR4 substrate with a dielectric constant of 4.4 and has dimensions of 80 × 120 × 1.6 mm.
This antenna has been simulated with the help of CST Studio Suite 2019 software which
produces an antenna return loss value at a frequency of 915 MHz of -31.573 dB and a
VSWR value of 1.0542. Based on antenna measurements using the MS2034B Anritsu VNA,
the antenna return loss value at the frequency of 915 MHz is around -17 dB and the VSWR
value is around 1.3. Antenna testing on the FM503 RFID system obtained the maximum
distance that can be achieved is 52 cm
