    Abstract
Facial mask is one of the treatments that aims to tighten the skin and treat the skin with ingredients contained in cosmetics. Papaya seeds (Carica Papaya L.) are known to contain alkaloid compounds that have the potential to inhibit the growth of Propionibacterium acnes bacteria that cause acne. Gel mask with the active ingredient of papaya seed ethanol extract is one form of facial treatment to treat acne. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of papaya seed ethanol extract in the form of gel mask preparations in inhibiting the growth of propionibacterium acnes bacteria that cause acne. The preparation of papaya seed extract was carried out by maceration method using 96% ethanol solvent. The antibacterial activity test method uses the disc paper agar diffusion method and the patch test method in the irritation test. Formulation of gel mask preparations with papaya seed ethanol extract concentrations of 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25%. The gel mask preparation was tested for organoleptic, homogeneity, viscosity, pH, irritation test and antibacterial activity test. The results of this study indicate that the gel mask preparation is gel, mauve red in colour, has a distinctive peppermint aroma, homogeneous, pH 7,39-7,99, viscosity 12974-22454 cP, diameter of the inhibition zone 14.1-15.6 mm including the strong category and does not cause skin irritation
