    Abstract
Background: Balakka (Phyllanthus emblica L.) is a plant from the Phyllanthaceae family. This plant has a cardioprotective effect through the mechanisms of reducing oxidative stress, reducing lipid peroxidation, increasing endogenous antioxidant levels, and protecting against ischemia reperfusion injury. Objective: To determine the effect of ethanol extract of balakka fruit on IL-17 and TNF-α of rats induced by L-NAME. Methods: IL-17 and TNF-α biomarkers were measured in rats before and after administration of ethanol extract of balakka fruit using the ELISA method. Mice were divided into 6 test groups with each treatment, respectively, normal group, positive control, negative control, and 3 extract test groups. The 5 groups that were treated were induced by L-NAME for 30 consecutive days. On day 31, the positive control group was given 12,5 mg/KgBW of captopril, while the extract test group was given ethanol extract of balakka fruit at dose of 100, 300, and 500 mg/KgBW. Blood serum was taken and IL-17 and TNF-α levels were measured using the appropriate ELISA kit. Results: IL-17 and TNF-α levels in the normal group, positive control and EEBB 100, 300, and 500 mg/KgBW test groups were significantly different from the negative control group. The EEBB 500 mg/KgBW test group was not significantly different from the normal group and positive control. Conclusion: EEBB can reduce the levels of IL-17 and TNF-α in rats induced by L-NAME.
