    The Relationship between Stress, Anxiety, and Depression on Xerostomia in SMK Tinggi Port Dickson Pre-University Students

    Abstract
    Stress, anxiety, and depression have systemic and oral impacts. Xerostomia is a subjective perception of dry mouth that is often experienced by patients with stress, anxiety, and depression. This study aims to determine the relationship between stress, anxiety, and depression on xerostomia in pre-university students at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tinggi Port Dickson. The type of research carried out was analytical with a cross sectional approach involving 107 pre-university students at SMK Tinggi Port Dickson class of 2022. The selection of subjects in this study was based on a purposive sampling technique with inclusion criteria which included pre-university students who did not smoke, did not use vape, had no systemic illness, was not undergoing therapy for a mental health problem, and was a student who signed the informed consent. Data collection was carried out using the DASS-21 and Fox questionnaires. DASS-21 is used to identify symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression. The Fox Questionnaire is used to identify symptoms of xerostomia. The data is processed computerized using the SPSS statistical application. Bivariate data were analyzed using the Chi-square statistical test to see the relationship between stress, anxiety, and depression on xerostomia. The results showed that there is a significant relationship between stress and xerostomia with a p-value of 0.008 (p ˂ 0.05), anxiety and xerostomia with a p-value 0.000 (p ˂ 0.05), and depression and xerostomia with a p-value of 0.000 (p ˂ 0.05). The conclusion of this study shows that there is a significant relationship between stress, anxiety, and depression on xerostomia in pre-university students at SMK Tinggi Port Dickson.
