Tooth extraction can cause an open wound in the socket. Untreated post-tooth extraction wounds can lead to several complications such as severe pain, dry sockets, bone infections, gum infections, and tooth abscesses. Porphyromonas gingivalis is considered to be an infection-associated pathogenic bacteria in post-tooth extraction wounds. Infection of Porphyromonas gingivalis bacteria can enhance the destructive effect on socket tissue after tooth extraction. Snakehead fish contains arginine and glutamine, which have an important role in wound healing and antibacterial activity. The purpose of this study was to see the effect of snakehead fish gel extract on the growth of Porphyromonas gingivalis bacteria. Snakehead fish gel extract with several concentrations, namely 2.5%, 5%, 10%, 20% positive control of metronidazole gel and negative control of base gel. Testing the bacterial inhibition of snakehead fish gel extract using the Kirby-Bauer diffusion method with 3x24 hours incubation time. The data of this study were carried out by the Kruskal-Wallis test followed by the Mann-Whitney test. In this study, there was a significant difference between the control group and the treatment group. The results showed that snakehead fish gel extract with 20%, 10% and 5% concentration can inhibit the growth of Porphyromonas gingivalis bacteria.en_US
