    Abstract
Natural rubber is a polymer compound that has high elastic properties. The elasticity of natural rubber is very necessary in improving the physical properties of asphalt mixtures. Such long molecular chains are one of the reasons why natural rubber is difficult to mix with other polymer materials, so degrading treatment is necessary first to produce natural rubber with a lower molecular weight and shorter chains. In this research, asphalt has been modified with degraded natural rubber. Using a photochemical method (30 watt UV light) with the addition of phenylhydrazine by heating at a temperature of 70℃ for 72 hours with a decrease in molecular weight and the results of the FTIR test indicate that the degradation process has achieved results because the polymer chain breaking occurred in two point of the natural rubber molecular chain, thereby producing terminal carbonyl and hydroxyl groups. The resulting natural rubber is then mixed with asphalt to produce asphalt-natural rubber with variations in the addition of natural rubber of 12, 14, 16, and 18% to the asphalt mass, respectively. The results of the FTIR test of the asphalt-rubber produced show that the addition of natural rubber into Asphalt is successfully mixed with the most visible form of interaction, namely hydrogen bonding between O and asphalt or natural rubber, which makes it possible to form R-O-R from R=O. And in testing the mixing of asphalt through the softening point, it can be seen with the addition of 12- 18% natural rubber. into the asphalt mixture shows an increase in temperature which shows the effect of adding natural rubber to the asphalt where the minimum value of the previous asphalt-rubber mixing was ≥52˚C with a mixing range of 2-10%, however the increase occurred when the addition was 12-18% with the optimum value obtained at 54.3˚C with an addition variation of 18%.
