    Abstract
Background: The recommended eradication therapy for Helicobacter pylori infection is simple, well tolerated and has an effectiveness of more than 80%. Several studies show that giving combination therapy with PPI, Clarithromycin and Amoxicillin has an effectiveness of above 80%. Proton pump inhibitor has a better tolerance level in children compared to Bismuth and Ranitidine. There are several options for using PPIs, including first generation such as Omeprazole and Lansoprazole or second-generation Esomeprazole. Each PPI has a different effect in combination with antibiotics in eradicating Helicobacter pylori infection. Objective: to determine whether there is a difference in recurrence rates in the use of Esomeprazole and Lansoprazole in triple combination therapy for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection in children. Methods: Prospective analysis was carried out on children with Helicobacter pylori infection who were treated at gastroenterohepatology clinic or treated in pediatric ward of General Adam Malik Hospital or University of North Sumatra Hospital during research period. Sample selection used consecutive sampling. Assessment of recurrence after 90 days of complete treatment between the two groups used the Fischer’s Exact test. Results: Twenty-eight children who received Lansoprazole, 4 people (14,3%) experienced a recurrence of Helicobacter pylori infection, while of the 27 children who received Esomeprazole, 4 people (14,8%) showed a recurrence. Conclusion: Differences in recurrence rates were not found when using Esomeprazole or Lansoprazole in triple combination therapy for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection in children.
