Abstract

Mosques have an important role in the development of religious tourism in North Sumatra. North Sumatra has a rich history of Islamic culture and religion, so the mosque became one of the popular religious tourist destinations in the region. This study aims to determine the role of mosques in North Sumatra in the development of religious tourism . This study was conducted to find the concept of religious tourism development in mosque buildings. The approach used in this research is mix method . The study was conducted in natural conditions, researchers conducted a survey to the source data. The existence of mosques in Indonesia has a very important role. Not only a place of worship for Muslims, the mosque also functioned as a center of education, information dissemination, to the center of the development of Islamic culture and civilization, as well as religious tourism destinations. Mosques are part of religious tourism and the advancement of tourism in Muslim countries has shown interest in the promotion of mosques as core tourism attractions
