The Effect of Social Support on Internet Addiction in Adolescents
Abstract
This research aims to see the influence of social support on internet addiction in adolescents. According to Sarafino (2011), social support is comfort, attention, appreciation or assistance that individuals receive from other people or a group Kuss & Griffiths (2015) internet addiction is problematic internet use, which is characterized by the individual's inability to control time when using the internet, and feels that the virtual world is more interesting compared to the real world. The respondents in this study were 140 adolescents. Data collection was carried out using a likert scale, namely the social support scale by Pandiangan (2011) based on the social support aspects of Sarafino, totaling 22 items, and the internet addiction scale which has been modified from the social media addiction scale by Napitupulu (2023), which is a modification of the Bergen Facebook Addiction Scale developed by Andreassen (2012) based on internet addiction aspects of Kuss & Ggriffiths (2015), with 18 items. This research is a quantitative study with a correlational design. Data analysis uses a simple linear regression analysis method. The research results show that social support has a negative effect on internet addiction in teenagers with an value of 0.047, with significant value 0.010.
