Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the results of subject comparisons using Zipf's Law with a comparative study of determining keywords in the Journal of Berkala Ilmu Perpustakaan dan Informasi UGM and the Journal of Kajian Informasi & Perpustakaan UNPAD. The research used a comparative descriptive method with a quantitative approach. The unit of analysis for this research was the journal articles from the Journal of Berkala Ilmu Perpustakaan dan Informasi UGM and the Journal of Kajian Informasi & Perpustakaan UNPAD published in 2019-2021. The data processing used the Word Counter application and Zipf's Law to determine word frequency and Hawkins Taxonomy to classify subjects in the field of library science. The research findings show that the comparison in the level of determining keywords using Zipf's Law in the Journal of Berkala Ilmu Perpustakaan dan Informasi has a relevance level of "Very Relevant" of 33% and "Marginally Relevant" of 25%, while the Journal of Kajian Informasi & Perpustakaan has a relevance level of "Very Relevant” by 21% and “Marginally Relevant” by 21%. In conclusion, the Journal of Berkala Ilmu Perpustakaan dan Informasi has a higher level of relevance in determining appropriate keywords than the Journal of Kajian Informasi & Perpustakaan. The findings on the content of the articles show that the Journal of Berkala Ilmu Perpustakaan dan Informasi tends to raise the subject of Libraries and Library Services, while the Journal of Kajian Informasi & Perpustakaan focuses on Societal Issues.
