Representasi Perpustakaan dan Pustakawan dalam Drama Korea Summer Strike

Abstract

This study aims to describe the representation of a librariy and the librarian in the Korean drama "Summer Strike." The research adopts a qualitative approach using semiotic analysis introduced by Roland Barthes, who in his theory introduced the terms denotation and connotation. The primary data source for this research is the drama series "Summer Strike," with secondary data derived from books, scholarly articles, and other relevant literatures that reinforce and support the research. The data were collected through in-depth observation of the drama. The current study revealed that: 1) the library in "Summer Strike" is portrayed as providing excellent and enjoyable services to their patrons. The library actively promotes its collection, which has been identified and organized using library application technology and is maintained professionally to ensure it remains in good condition and accessible to users. Despite these strengths, the library is depicted as facing challenges, namely, it is not very popular or appealing to the public. 2) The librarian in the series is portrayed as a young individual who always maintains a clean and neat appearance. The librarian provides friendly and professional service. The librarian is also depicted as responsive in handling various situations and firm in maintaining order within the library. However, in this drama the librarian profession is still seen as a less promising profession.
