The Correlation between Family Support and Quality of Life of Elderly with Hypertension at Integrated Health Service Post (Posyandu) for Elderly in Kedai Durian
Abstract
Without proper management and control, elderly suffering from hypertension may experience various symptoms such as headache, paraesthesia in the foot and other body parts, that can decrease their quality of life. One of the factors that can improve their quality of life is family support, which offers happiness while also affecting their health. This Research Tries to find and the correlation between family support and quality of life among elderly hypertensive patients at the Posyandu in Kedai Durian Village. This quantitative descriptive correlational study with a cross-sectional design uses a purposive sampling to select 76 elderly individuals serving as the sample of the study. The instrument used in this study is a questionnaire. The study finds that 62 (81.6%) elderly hypertensive patients receive good family support, and 70 (92.1%) report having good quality of life. The Spearman's rho correlational test indicating a p-value (0.000) < a 0.05, with r = 0.616, demonstrates a considerable correlation between family support and quality of life among elderly hypertensive patients. Healthcare providers are encouraged to educate families about the importance of family support for elderly hypertensive patients to help them achieve a good quality of life.
