    Abstract
Aphthous Stomatitis (RAS) is an oral cavity disease that has many predisposing factors, one of which is hormonal changes. One of the hormones that is known to influence the occurrence of SAR is the cortisol hormone. The aim of this research is to find out whether there is a difference in salivary cortisol levels between RAS sufferers and non-RAS sufferers among USU FKG students in 2023. This type of research is an analytical survey with a case control design with a sample of 58 students, consisting of 29 case groups (RAS sufferers) and 29 control groups (non-RAS sufferers). The gender and age matching process were carried out in two groups. The method used for selecting research subjects was purposive sampling technique. Inclusion criteria were USU FKG students, willing to sign informed consent and currently not consuming any medication. Students who were uncooperative, had a history of systemic disease, and/or used braces and dentures were excluded from this study. Saliva samples were taken using the drooling method. Salivary cortisol levels were measured using ELISA. Statistical tests were carried out using the Mann-Whitney test. The results showed that salivary cortisol levels in women (0.6012 ± 0.3999 mcg/dl) were higher than men (0.4952 ± 0.1896 mcg/dl), salivary cortisol levels in the case group (0, 5516 ± 0.26659 mcg/dl) lower than the control group (0.6223 ± 0.41210 mcg/dl) and there was no difference in mean salivary cortisol levels between the case group and the control group (p = 0.846). The conclusion of this study is that there is no difference in cortisol levels between RAS sufferers and non-RAS sufferers of USU FKG students.
