    Abstract
The Malay tribe in Medan is divided into two, namely Deli Malay and Langkat Malay. This study chose a sample of Langkat Malay because Deli Malay is in the city of Medan, which is likely to have mixed with other tribes, so choosing Langkat Malay, which is the majority of the original population, is the original Malay tribe people who still live in the neighbourhood. This study aims to determine the relationship between gender and age on MMO in Malay tribal children aged 6-12 years in Pantai Gemi Langkat. This type of research is descriptive-analytical with a cross-sectional design. The sample size was 60 children, 30 boys and 30 girls. MMO was measured using the Range of Motion Scale (TheraBite®). Data were processed univariately and presented in tabular form as frequency distributions and percentages, calculated bivariately using the Kruskal-Wallis test and the Mann-Whitney test. The results obtained showed that the mean maximum mouth opening size for boys was 41.03 ± 3.44 mm and that girls had a smaller maximum mouth opening size with a mean of 37.93 ± 3.95 mm. The mean maximum mouth opening size based on age 6-12 years with a total of 60 children had a value of 39.48 ± 3.998 mm. This study found that there was a significant difference in mean maximum mouth opening with gender and age, as the p-value was obtained ≤ 0.05, so it could be stated that there was a gender relationship in boys with a greater maximum mouth opening than girls and the age of 6-8 years increased with age at 9-10 years but decreased at 11-12 years to the maximum mouth opening.
