Perbedaan Kadar Zink Saliva Penderita dan Bukan Penderita Stomatitis Aftosa Rekuren pada Mahasiswa FKG USU 2024
The Differences of Salivary Zinc Levels in RAS Patients and Non-RAS Partients Among Dental Students at Faculty of Dentistry Universitas Sumatera Utara in 2024
Abstract
Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis (SAR) is an oral cavity disorder that has several predisposing factors, one of which is nutritional deficiency, such as zinc. The purpose of this research is to determine the difference of salivary zinc levels in RAS patients and non-RAS patients among academic and clinical dental student at the Faculty of Dentistry Universitas Sumatera Utara. This study is an observational analytical research with a case-control design involving 58 samples, consisting of 29 case groups (RAS patients) and 29 kontrol groups (non-RAS patients), gender and age matching of case-control groups was carried out with the inclusion criteria of being physically healthy, not taking zinc supplements in the last 1 month, not being pregnant, and willing to participate in study with informed consent, and exclusion criteria, namely having systemic diseases that can affect zinc levels (diabetes, liver and kidney), being uncooperative, using orthodontic devices and removable dentures (prosthodontics). Sample selection was done using purposive sampling technique. Saliva sample were collected unstimulated using the drooling method. Saliva samples were tested with the QuantichromTM Zinc Assay Kit and read using a microplate reader at a wavelength of 425 nm. Statistical data processing and analysis with Mann Whitney test. The results showed that salivary zinc levels in women were higher (16.4859 ± 13.1647 μg/dL) than men (12.7701 ± 14.3991 μg/dL), salivary zinc levels of RAS patients were higher (17.921 ± 10.1475 μg/dL) than non-RAS patients (12.745 ± 16.0173 μg/dL) and there is no difference in the mean salivary zinc levels between the case group and the control group (p = 0.147). The conclusion of this study was that there was no significant difference in salivary zinc levels between RAS patients and non-patients among dental students at Faculty of Dentistry Universitas Sumatera Utara.
