Public Perceptions About Complementary Therapies in Matsum I City Village, Medan Area Subdistrict, Medan City
Abstract
Complementary therapy is a series of various types of treatment and holistic health services as a complement to modern medicine which aims lo improve the body's immune system. Complementary therapy became a world phenomenon through the first WHO Global Summit in 2023 in India on the development of traditional, alternative and complementary medicine. This study examined respondents who had used complementary therapies. The aim of this research is lo determine the perception of the community in Kola Matsum I Village, Medan District, Medan City Region towards complementary therapies. The design of this research is quantitative descriptive. The sample in this research was the community of Matsum I City Village, Medan District, Medan City Region, totaling 98 samples with the sampling technique being Pusposive Sampling. Data collection for this research used a questionnaire created by the researchers themselves. The results of research based on categories of public perception of complementary therapies showed that 88 people (89.8%) had positive perceptions and JO people (10.2%) had negative perceptions of complementary therapies. The conclusion of this research is that many people have positive perceptions because of the ease of access according lo their needs and the relatively more affordable cost of complementary therapy compared to modern therapy. Researchers recommend that people choose standardized complementary therapies.
