    Abstract
Sandblasting is a process of shooting abrasive particles onto a material surface to clean dust, paint, rust, and create a texture on the surface of the material so that the protective layer can adhere better. The aim of this research is to examine the effect of variations in spraying pressure and the use of aluminum oxide abrasive material with a shooting angle of 90o on the surface roughness and quality of ASTM A36 steel coating. The method used is by comparing the results of the sandblasting process with 60 grit aluminum oxide abrasive at a distance of 5cm and 10cm with pressures of 4, 6 and 8 bar with an angle of 90o in the same test parameters. The test analysis used is the surface roughness tester, sandblasting test, and paint adhesion test. The results of the research showed that the highest Ra value in aluminum oxide abrasive material with a distance of 5 cm at a pressure of 8 bar was 4.125 μm, and the lowest Ra value for aluminum oxide media at a distance of 5 cm at a pressure of 4 bar was 2.879 μm. The highest Ra value in aluminum oxide media with a distance of 10 cm with a pressure of 8 bar is 3.663 μm, and the lowest Ra value in aluminum oxide media with a distance of 10 cm with a pressure of 4 bar is 3.329 μm. So it can be concluded that variations in pressure, firing angle and abrasive material and the distance used in sandblasting have a significant influence on surface roughness
