dc.description.abstract | This thesis is entitled Ruma Parsaktian Ompu Raja Sorta Uluan: A Semiotic Study. This house is a traditional house cultural site located in Sibandang Village, Muara District, North Tapanuli Regency. This traditional house is the residence of a king on Sibandang Island, namely King Sorta Uluan. This research aims to describe the form of symbols contained in Ruma Parsaktian Ompu Raja Sorta Uluan, the function of symbols contained in Ruma Parsaktian Ompu Raja Sorta Uluan, the meaning of symbols contained in Ruma Parsaktian Ompu Raja Sorta Uluan. The theory used in analyzing the data is the semiotic theory proposed by Charles Sanders Peirce. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The results of this study indicate that the form of symbols contained are: equipment symbols (1) equipment symbols, namely: losung, hiong, hudon, hurhuran, ampang, hujur siringis, piso gaja dompak, ompon, sapa bolon, doton/sulangat, sangkak, sunut, sangkalan, geanggeang, panutuan/tutu; and (2) gorga ornament symbols, namely: ulu paung, simeoleol, jenggar-jenggar, ipon-ipon, andor mangalata, simanuk-manuk, mariran-iran, marjamban-jambang, and gaja dompak. The functions of symbols in Ruma Parsaktian Ompu Raja Sorta Uluan include the following: (1) to help the activities carried out; (2) as a symbol of decoration; (3) as a symbol of social status; (4) as a guardian of the house and (5) as a repellent. The meaning of the symbols found in Ruma Parsaktian Ompu Raja Sorta Uluan are: brotherhood, magic, unity, beauty, and strength. | en_US |
