    Abstract
    Background: Acne vulgaris is a disorder of the pilosebaceous unit with a chronic inflammation. Acne not only caused skin disorder, but also psychosocial issue. Mango seeds kernel (Mangifera indica L.), a by-product from mango consumption, is a good source of bioactive compounds, such as polifenol, fenolic acid, etc. Polifenol and fenolic acids content plays an important role in antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory activities. Mango seeds kernel extract cream (Mangifera indica L.) is expected to have a role not only in acne management but also quality of life. Objective: To determine the effect of mango seeds kernel extract cream (Mangifera indica L.) 5% in acne vulgaris. Subject and Method: This quasi experimental clinical trial with pretest-posttest design on 40 subjects ≥ 18 years old with acne vulgaris. Diagnosis was made clinically and evaluations were done by counting noninflammatory and inflammatory of acne vulgaris, along with adverse events and quality of life measurement before and after topical use of mango seeds kernel extract. Data analyzed by repeated Anova test or Friedman test and and continued with post-hoc test to assess clinical improvement in acne lesion counts before and after intervention, with p<0.05 indicates significance. Results: Acne vulgaris is more common in female (70%) with the majority occurring in the 18–25 years age group (72,5%). There were significant reductions in the noninflammatory and inflammatory lesion count (p<0,001) after using mango seeds kernel extract cream. There were no subject experienced adverse event. There were significant improvements in all quality of life domains (self perception, role social, role emotional, and acne symptoms) using Acne-Specific Quality of Life-Indonesia questionnaire (p<0,001) after using mango seeds kernel extract cream. Conclusion: The use of mango seeds kernel extract cream (Mangifera indica L.) 5% can improve clinical appearance and quality of life acne vulgaris without any side effects.
