Background: Investigations into decomposed remains are conducted to develop biological profiles that identify individuals by estimating the age, sex and stature of the remains. Forensic anthropology is based on osteology and human anatomy with the aim of identifying individuals for legal and judicial purposes. Several techniques and methods are used in forensic anthropolo6ry identification, one of which is estimating height. Height estimation through human remains is based on the principle that there is a linear relationship between height and various parts of the human body and bones. Methods: Sampling in this study was based on the total sampling technique, namely the entire population was used as a research sample that met the inclusion requirements. In this study is consecutive sampling I Quota Sampling, the type of data used in this study is primary data, namely data obtained directly from research samples which include measurements of height and length of the index finger of the hand using a digital height kaliver using a wireless body height meter ht72 I at the Central Hospital Haji Adam Malik Medan. Result: In this study it was found that the index finger) has a relationship with body length. Height against index finger length based on gender and without distinguishing gender. The most accurate I better index finger in estimating the actual height with the variable right and left index fingers in women. Conclusion: The application of the height regression formula must be adjusted to the origin of the population in the study to produce a formula. There is a relationship (correlation) between index finger length and height in adults in North Sumatra with a moderate to strong level of relationship.en_US
