dc.description.abstract | Indonesia is a vast country known for its linguistic, ethnic and cultural diversity. In general, naming a place makes it easier for people to know the location and is useful for government data collection. Naming cannot be separated from language, because language is a sign system commonly used by humans or society as a means of communication. The aim of this research is to identify the toponymic meaning of village names in Karo Regency, describe the toponymic categorization of village names in Karo Regency and identify the cultural values contained in the toponymy of village names in Karo Regency. This research uses the listening and speaking method. The results of data processing show that villages in Karo district have 3 name meanings, namely futurative, situational and memorable. Based on the naming system, the toponymic categorization of villages in the Regency is divided into 3 aspects, namely the embodiment aspect, the social aspect and the cultural aspect. Meanwhile, the cultural values contained in the toponymy of villages in Karo Regency consist of cultural values of peace, such as the cultural value of politeness in 1 village, social solidarity in 2 villages, the cultural value of harmony and conflict resolution in 4 villages, the cultural value of commitment in 2 regions. and the cultural value of positive thinking in 1 village. There are cultural values of welfare in 3 villages, there are cultural values of hard work, there are 2 villages in the cultural values of health, there are 3 villages in the cultural values of caring for the environment and there are 5 villages in the cultural values of preservation and cultural creativity. Some villages do not have cultural value because the community named the village after a certain event. | en_US |
