A Terjun has been operating for 31 years and implements an open dumping system. This landfill accommodates waste from 21 sub-districts in Medan City with a total incoming waste of around 1500-2000 tons/day. Leachate can be toxic to surrounding living things if not managed properly. Toxic substances in leachate can potentially increase the accumulation of toxic substances in living things, so it is necessary to monitor the quality of leachate. Water fleas (Daphnia sp.) are sensitive species that have proven useful for the toxicological analysis of complex mixtures such as landfill leachate. This study aims to determine the LC50 value and the level of leachate toxicity of the TPA Terjun against water flea (Daphnia sp.) using the WET (Whole Effluent Toxicity) method referring to USEPA (2002). The results showed that the LC50-96hour value of leachate in the TPA Terjun was 6.7% for the drainage leachate and 59.8% for the outlet leachate where the TUa of the drainage leachate was obtained at 14.8 which was included in the category of high acute toxicity, while the value of the outlet leachate was obtained at 1.7 which was included in the category of acute toxicity. The results of the toxicity test confirmed that leachate could not be discharged into the environment without treatment first because it could pollute the aquatic ecosystem.en_US
