An Analysis of Psychological Trauma on the Main Character in Honey Boy Movie

Abstract

This research examined the analysis of trauma in Honey Boy movie by Shia LaBeouf. It aims to find out Otis' trauma experience and the events that caused trauma to Otis in Honey Boy movie. The research used a qualitative descriptive method and a psychological approach to analyze the trauma experienced by Otis in the movie and its causes. It used the theory of trauma theory by Cathy Caruth. The source of this research reveals that Otis faces trauma through various experiences, including flashbacks, arousal, and avoidance. The cause of Otis' trauma is traumatized by physical violence, abuse, parental divorce, and family conflict. Based on this research, Honey Boy movie can be used as a reference to find out how trauma is experienced and what causes trauma. This research aims to provide information for readers to gain insight into trauma and its causes, as depicted by the main character, Otis, in Honey Boy movie, who endured physical violence.
