The Discourse of War: Clause Complexes in Israel-Palestine Conflict News

A news have big role in giving a factual existing what is happening in the world and may contain difficult terminologies to understand. This study aims to examine the logical function which are taxis and logico-semantic relation between clause complexes related to the conflict between Israel and Palestine by Al Jazeera and the BBC. The descriptive qualitative method was applied in this study and utilize SFL approach. The data of this study is 240 clause complexes by separated from 10 news articles, such as Al-Jazeera and BBC news. The clause complexes theory conducted by Halliday and Matthiessen (2014) is employed to analyze the data. All types of logical function such as taxis and logico-semantic relation are found in the data. But, in specifically condition in category of enhancement is not found. The finding of the research are 127 of parataxis and 113 hypotaxis occurred. In specifically, locution appears frequently with 99 times ( 59 times parataxis and 40 times hypotaxis) , extension appears 51 times ( 44 times parataxis and 7 times hypotaxis), elaboration appears 45 times (18 times parataxis and 27 times hypotaxis), and Idea appears 9 times (3 times parataxis and 6 times hypotaxis). Based on this result, this research amplify news must realize the used of logical function especially locution.
