    Abstract
Global warming is a major issue because it impacts living things due to global climate change. Mitigation efforts can be carried out to anticipate global warming, one of which is through mitigating carbon absorption by mangrove forests. With mangroves' ability to store carbon, the increase in carbon emissions in nature can certainly be further reduced. The aim of this research is to calculate stored carbon stocks consisting of aboveground carbon, belowground carbon, soil carbon and dead wood carbon. This research was conducted from October to December 2023 in Pekan Besitang Village, Langkat Regency. The method used in sampling was a non-destructive method in 3 transects and each transect consisted of 6 observation plots. Data analysis to estimate carbon storage above and below the soil surface uses allometric equations, to estimate soil carbon storage by calculating bulk density and for dead wood carbon is estimated by calculating the volume of wood. The results obtained were that 5 species were found including Avicennia officinalis, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, Excoecaria agallocha, Sonneratia alba and Xylocarpus granatum with a total of 422 individuals at the research location. Based on the results of the estimated stored carbon stock, above ground carbon was obtained at 251,54 MgC/ha and below ground carbon at 124,85 MgC/ha. The amount of dead wood carbon is 50,30 MgC/ha and the soil carbon stock calculation results are 281,35 to 386,52 MgC/ha. Judging from its carbon storage, the mangrove forest in Pekan Besitang Village has the potential to absorb high carbon so it needs to be maintained and preserved.
