The degree of business competitiveness in the world is currently increasing,
particularly since the breakout of COVID-19 has delayed practically all corporate
activities, forcing business owners to employ a variety ways to gain a competitive
advantage for keeping their business afloat. Utilization of human resource is one
technique to get a competitive advantage. As a result, human resource management
is required to properly manage human resources, which are a company’s most
valuable asset.
This study aims to find out the role of human resource management to create
a company’s competitive advantage in Brastagi Supermarket Gatot Subroto
Medan. This study also aims to find out the role of human resource management to
obtain qualified human resources for the sustainability of the company.
This study takes a descriptive approach to qualitative research. From July
to August 2021, this study was conducted in Brastagi Supermarket Gatot Subroto
Medan. The manager of human resource development, assistant manager of human
resource development and one of the employees served as informants in this study.
Interviewing, observation, documentation and triangulation were used to acquire
data. Data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing were used in the data
analysis technique.
According to the findings of this study, human resource management at
Brastagi Supermarket Gatot Subroto Medan plays a critical role in human resource
procurement, development, compensation, employee integration and termination of
employment, in order to obtain human resources with the quality and ability to
provide the best service to customers in order to gain a competitive advantage.
