Kepribadian Tokoh Utama Janu dalam Novel Manusia dan Badainya Karya Syahid Muhammad: Kajian Psikologi Sastra

Abstract

This research examines the personality of the main character Janu in the novel Manusia dan Badainya by Syahid Muhammad. The purpose of this research is to find out the personality of the main character Janu. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method with a literaly psychology approach. Literary psychology is one of literary study that examines literature using various concepts in psychology that relate to psychological activities. Literary works that are viewed psychologically will show psychological aspects through the characters. The theory used in this research is psychoanalytic theory by Sigmund Freud which divides human personality based on the structure of the id, ego and superego. The results of this research can be concluded by looking at the most dominant structure in the main character, it can be concluded that the personality of the main character based on the Hippocrates-Galenus theory which classifies personality forms based on the fluids contained in the human body, namely, sanguine, phlegmatic, choleric and melancholic. The author concludes that the main character’s personality structure which is more dominant in this novel is the ego personality structure and has a melancholic personality type. The main character Janu has a sensitive, emotional personality, worries easily, perfectionist, creative, and also has high empathy.
