Analysis of Theme in the Novel Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the theme that appear in the Novel Reminders of Him. This study focuses on the analysis of the theme redemption portrayed in the novel Reminders of Him and how the main character in seeking redemption. To achieve the research objectives, the researcher using intrinsic approach or structure approach that great deal with the text of literary work. Intrinsic approach is the view of literature from inside without any influence from other source not even the biography of the author. This study uses the theory of theme proposed by Robert Stanton. This study uses qualitative descriptive method, all data are presented in the form of words and sentences. The result of the study shows that the theme of redemption is portrayed in the novel Reminders of Him through characters, plot and setting. The main character seeks redemption because she feels guilty about the death of her boyfriend and the accident causes her boyfriend’s parents great pain and devastation. There are 4 characteristics of the main character in seeking redemption that is tough, persistent, hardworking and sincere.
