This thesis is entitled: The Legend of Pusuk Buhit: A Study of Literary
Anthropology. Pusuk Buhit is one of the peaks on the western edge of Lake Toba.
In Batak mythology, this peak is said to be the birthplace of the Batak King. This
research aims to describe the intrinsic elements and cultural forms contained in
the Pusuk Buhit Legend in Aek Sipitudai Village, Samosir Regency. The method
used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The theory used in analyzing this
research data is the structural theory put forward by Nurgianto and the cultural
theory put forward by Koentjaraningrat. In this research, intrinsic elements were
found in the form of (1) themes, namely Struggle against obstacles in achieving
life goals; (2) setting, namely the setting includes Banua Ginjang, the ocean,
Banua Tonga, and the sky, with an atmosphere that includes tension, despair,
hope, and happiness; (3) characterization/character, namely there are 8 characters,
including Mulajadi Nabolon, Manuk-Manuk Halambujati, Batara Guru, Mangala
Bulan, Si Boru Deak Parujar, Si Raja Odap-Odap, Naga Padoha, Leang Leang
Mandi. (4) the point of view in this story is that the Legend of Pusuk Buhit has a
third person point of view; (5) the language style in this story is narrative; and (6)
the message in this story is patience and persistence in facing obstacles,
independence and courage in living life, appreciation for change, and the
importance of hard work and innovation which can produce something big and
meaningful. Apart from that, cultural manifestations found in the Pusuk Buhit
story were found in the form of: ideas including hamoraon, hagabeon, and
hasangapon; behavior/activities that include Somba Marhula-hula, Elek Marboru,
Manat Mardongan Tubu. As well as works, which include customs, clans and
traditional rules, Tala-tala, Pusuk Buhit Prayer, Batu Hobon, and Sopo Guru
Tateabulan.
