This research paper discusses children's lullabies, namely ende Bue - bue
in the traditional activities of putting children to sleep from the Mandailing tribe
in South Tapanuli. The content of the song is usually in the form of hopes and
prayers, so that when they grow up, their children will have a good life. Ende Bue
- bue consists of two traditional songs sung spontaneously entitled bue ale amang
and "Modom maho Amang" and two modern songs that have the same composer
entitled bue - bue. The meaning of the text and the melodic structure of ende bue
bue are two important things that need to be studied in this paper. To explain
these two things, the author uses. The theory used to answer the analysis of the
meaning of the text in this paper is the semiotic theory pioneered by Ferdinand de
Saussure regarding the meaning of denotation and connotation and to get the
results of the analysis of the melodic structure of Wiliam P. Malm weigthtedscale
method. Techniques The research technique used by the author is field work and
desk work (laboratory work) proposed by Bruno Netll. The author uses
Qualitative methods by conducting observations, interviews and audio and video
recordings. The results of the research reveal that Bue-bue papodom anak shows
the life of the people of South Tapanuli in the pre-technology and modernisation
period both produce the value of sacrifice, maturity, education, and morals. The
conclusion of this paper shows that the activity of the bue-bue papodom anak
tradition continues today. However, some elements such as the traditional or
spontaneous version of bue-bue papodom anak are rarely found anymore so that
its existence is replaced by bue-bue papodom anak that already has a creator or
has a recording.
