    Abstract
This study aimed to investigate literature half-life and obsolescence in a journal named BACA: Jurnal Dokumentasi dan Informasi published by the Center for Scientific Data and Documentation of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (PDDI LIPI) in 2020-2022. This study employed the quantitative descriptive method. Data were collected using the total sampling technique. As many as 1,431 citations from 55 articles published between 2020 and 2022 were collected and analyzed. The research findings show that the half-life of literature in articles published by BACA Journal for the period of 2020-2022 is 4.94 years with 785 new citations (around 56%) and 619 (44%) outdated articles or those having half-life more than 4.94 years. The oldest reference year is 1953 and the latest citation year is 2022. Therefore, it can be concluded that the information shown in BACA Journal is very up to date. From 2020 to 2022 BACA Journal had been a very significant decrease in the level of outdated references used. The half-life of articles published in 2020 is 6.32 years, 4.9 years in 2021, and 3.6 years in 2022 because of the abundant and up-to-date literature. However, the number of articles published in 2022 is lower compared to that of previous year, with only 10 articles difference. The oldest citation was found in an article published in 2021. The article cited the basic theory of information dissemination written in 1953. There were 5 respondents providing answers from 10 authors regarding citations older than 2000 as the limitation, with 1 respondent from 2020, 3 respondents from 2021, and 1 respondent from 2022. The main reason of citing is that they are basic theories that are still relevant. Then, there were 5 respondents providing answers from 16 authors regarding references cited more than once. There were 1 respondent from 2020, 1 respondent from 2021, and 3 respondents from 2022 that generally served as the role model of the research.
