    Abstract
    This study aims to determine the characteristics of marketing institutions involved in marketing, marketing channels, and marketing efficiency. This research used snowball sampling method. Respondents in this study were 37 respondents, 14 respondents were retailers, and 9 respondents were collectors. The results of the study Age in breeders is dominated in the age group 40-49 years, collector traders are dominated in the age group 50-59 years, and retail traders in the age group 40-49 years. The majority of the last education of breeders and collectors was senior high school, while for retailers it was junior high school. Business experience for farmers is dominated by 5-10 years, >20 years for retailers and collectors. There are 3 marketing channels in South Tapanuli District. The marketing margin in channel II amounted to Rp.650,600/head. Marketing margin in channel III amounted to Rp. 389,436/head. Farmer share in channel II amounted to 103%, and in channel II amounted to 102%. The ratio of profit to marketing cost in channel II was 2.05, and in channel III was 7.62. Marketing efficiency in channel II was 0.022, and in channel III was 0.004. Marketing system in Angkola Sangkunur Regency was efficient.
