    Abstract
Elephant foot yam is a shrub (herbaceous) plant that has prospects as an alternative food ingredient and has high economic value. Its production results in tubers with high polysaccharide (glucomannan) content, which is a food source and has many benefits in the industrial and health sectors. One of the obstacles in elephant foot yam cultivation is the lack of information and effective cultivation techniques for elephant foot yam plants, especially in the vegetative growth phase, so that elephant foot yam plants produce high tuber yields. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and gibberellin plant growth regulators on the vegetative growth of elephant foot yam plants in polybags. This research was carried out in Dusun V, Telaga Sari Village, Tanjung Morawa District, Deli Serdang Regency, starting from February to July 2023, using a Factorial Randomized Block Design with 3 replications consisting of 2 treatment factors, namely the treatment of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi doses of 0, 10, 20 and 30 g/plant and gibberellin plant growth regulator concentration treatments of 0, 50, 100 and 150 ppm. The results showed that the treatment of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi at a dose of 20 g/plant increased plant height, tuber weight, shoot fresh weight, and root dry weight. The gibberellin plant growth regulator (PGR) treatment with a concentration of 100 ppm increased plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, root length, and the degree of mycorrhizal infection. The interaction of M3G1 treatment increased stem diameter, number of leaves, and shoot fresh weight.
