Studi Interaksionisme Simbolik: Musik dalam Budaya Urban di Kota Medan

Abstract

This research has reduced of interpretative sight towards abstractly, arbitrary, and individualistic of music experiences, so the view of the music context based on social facts in Medan city. Social facts are used as conformity in seeing the influence of urban culture on the various impulses of musical actions and interactions, the mixture of urban and local, the relationship between musicians based on social structures and groups, and the role of the government towards music using the symbolic interactionism approach with the centered problem a) How the impluse factors of music activities in Medan city; b) How are the government's role in accommodating traditional music in Medan city. The research method used qualitative research by collecting data through observation, interviews, and literature sources. The result show that Medan city has diverse cultural characteristics as an urban area. Music in Medan city are influenced by urban and localised cultures that play an important role in the self-expression and livelihood of musicians. Impluse factors of musical interactions in Medan city as it had been noted are cultural influences, social environment, and economic needs. The government also has a role in providing legality, supporting art performances and activities, and developing creative economy policies in Medan city. So it can be enriching the understanding of music in the context of urban culture and contribute to each between government or musicians in promoting activities or developing music communities in Medan city.
